About Sherwood

It is a progressive, growing primary school, servicing the educational needs of children aged between 5 (New Entrants/Year 0) and 11 (Year 6). Sherwood shares ones of its borders with Northcross Intermediate, which provides a natural next step for children when they reach year 7 and 8.

The roll grows to approximately 490 students by the end of a school year. A child-centred learning community, Sherwood’s teaching model aims to encourage students to develop a range of skills that foster learning and active participation in society. Our students come from a range of cultures from around the world, which adds to the richness of the school community. The school has a strong focus on the use of technology to support children’s education and each classroom is well equipped for this.

We are a fully authorised international Baccalaureate (IB) school. We have chosen to use the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to help us structure and implement the New Zealand Curriculum because it places an emphasis on children’s understanding of the world around them, and encourages the values and attitudes required to become caring and valued citizens of society.

Before and After School Care (BASC) is a well-managed extension of the school. It has purpose-built buildings and dedicated staff. This facility caters for up to 100 students in a session. It also runs stimulating holiday programmes.

The school has a supportive Board Of Trustees and Sherwood Parents Association (SPA), and a dedicated teaching and support staff.
